In May, International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) Chair Werner Rühm was in Geneva during the 79th World Health Assembly to support the adoption of the World Health Organization resolution, “Radiation and health: strengthening global protection, preparedness and response”.
The resolution represents an important step forward in recognising radiological protection as a core public and occupational health function, essential for protecting patients, workers, the public, and the environment, while supporting the safe and beneficial uses of radiation technologies around the world.
As the independent organisation responsible for developing and maintaining the System of Radiological Protection used globally, ICRP stands ready to support WHO, Member States, and partners in the implementation of this important resolution. Through science, ethics, and international collaboration, we remain committed to advancing radiological protection for the benefit of society.
