ICRP Main Commission Meeting

2004 October 14 and 16-18– Suzhou, China

The Main Commission of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) and its Committees met in Suzhou, China on October 14 and 16-18 2004.
The Commission reviewed, provided consultation, and considered the following reports for web-consultation:
• Foundation document, optimisation
• Low-Dose Extrapolation of Radiation-Related Cancer Risk
• Foundation document, defining the individual
• Radiation safety and release of patients after therapy with permanently implanted sources
• Foundation document (physics), Basis for Dosimetric Quantities Used in Radiological Protection
• Foundation document (biology), Biological and Epidemiological Information on Health Risks Attributable to Ionising Radiation

The Commission gave permission for the former 4 documents to be made available for web consultation but requested the latter 2 to have the necessary amendments made and presented to the Main Commission in the March 2005 meeting.

The Commission received reviewed the following reports:
• Radiation safety and release of patients after therapy with permanently implanted sources
• Protecting People against Radiation Exposure in the Aftermath of a Radiological Attack

The Commission heard a discussion on the topic of breast and gender averaging with regards to tissue weighting factors. The Commission considered several factors and asked for a discussion paper to be prepared for the March 2005 Main Commission meeting.
The Commission was presented with project proposals from C1, C2, and C3 which would involve additional financial resources and possible joint collaboration with other Task Groups. The requests were accepted by the Main Commission.
The Chairman began discussion on the Draft 2005 ICRP Publication and heard summary reports from Chairpersons of their respective Committees to compile consultation findings and possible issues to address in the new report.
The Commission elected Professor Jai-Ki Lee and Dr Natalia Shandala as new members of the Main Commission as of July 1 2015.
The Main Commission approved proposed new compositions of C1, C2, and C5 due to upcoming retirements by Committee members.
