Rolf Sievert

Rolf Sievert is a pioneering figure not only in the field of radiological protection but also for ICRP. He has the distinction of being the first Chairman of ICRP’s Main Commission as well as the only one to hold the position for two different terms, once from 1928-1931 and again from 1956-1962.
 

Lauriston Taylor

Lauriston Taylor had an enormous impact on ICRP. He was present at the very first meeting of ICRP forerunner, the International X-ray and Radium Protection Committee (IXRPC) in 1928. In total, Lauriston served as a member of ICRP in various positions from 1928-1993, an astounding 65 years. He was Chairman of the Main Commission from 1937-1950 and Scientific Secretary in 1934, 1937 and from 1947-1950.
 

Bo Lindell

Bo has had a seminal role in the history of ICRP. Before joining the Main Commission in 1962, Bo served as Scientific Secretary of ICRP for the 1957-1962 term. Bo served on the Main Commission with distinction and was elected to chairman in 1977. Bo made several important contributions to ICRP, including a central role in the creation of ICRP recommendations found in Publication 26.

David Sowby

Dr. Sowby joined ICRP in 1956 as a member of Committee 5. Dr. Sowby has the distinction of being the first full time Scientific Secretary of ICRP, assuming the position in 1962 and retaining it for an incredible 24 years. David Sowby transformed ICRP by developing stronger bonds with other international organizations and by expanding the funding base of ICRP.
 

Dan Beninson

Dr. Beninson joined the Main Commission in 1963 and was elected to the position of Vice-Chairman in 1977. He served as Vice-Chairman until 1985, when he was elected to the Chairman position. Dr. Beninson served as chairman until 1993, after which he was elected to the position of Emeritus Member.
 

H. John Dunster

In 1959, John became a member of ICRP after joining Committee 5. Joining the Main Commission of ICRP in 1977, John went on to be the principal author of ICRP 1990 Recommendations as well as Publication 22 and the creation of the ALARA principle. In 1997, John left the Main Commission and became an Emeritus Member of ICRP.
 

Hylton Smith

Hylton Smith took over from Michael Thorne as ICRP Scientific Secretary in 1985, serving in the position until 1997. He is chiefly responsible for the modernization of the production of the Annals of the ICRP. Additionally, in 1988 he also negotiated the charity status of ICRP in the United Kingdom. A status which ICRP retains to this day.
