ICRP Main Commission Meeting

2001 September 7-8 – Den Haag, The Netherlands

The MC received progress reports regarding the following documents:

• Report on Bask Anatomical and Physiological Data for Use in Radiological Protection: Reference Values
• Report on Diagnostic Reference Levels in Medical Imaging
• Report on Radiation and Your Patient: A Guide for Medical Practitioners

The former report was placed on the ICRP website for consultation and was given permission to publish subject to amendments. The latter two documents were given permission to be published as technical document on authority of C3.

The MC received reports from the following Committees regarding progress on reports and research:

C1 – A Kellerer has taken over as Chairman and the proposed TG 45 21st Century Recommendations was approved given it would give priority to estimate risk factors at high natural background.
C2TG 31 HAT continues according to plan and the proposal to increase budget to support work on developing voxel phantoms for adult male and female was approved by the MC.
C3TG 36 Radiopharmaceuticals continues to operate according to plan. The proposal to create TG 46 Dose Reduction in Digital Radiography was approved.
C4 – Existing WPs have completed their work as planned. The following TGs were approved: TG 47 Characterising Individual Members of the Public, TG 48 Optimisation in Radiological Protection, and TG 49 Radiological Protection in Space Flight.

No updates have been suggested from C1-C4 regarding validity of current content.

The Scientific Secretary was requested to consider amendments to the liability disclaimer in each issue of the Annals.

The MC proposed that electronic publishing should be better covered and that access to documents by MC should be ensured.

D Beninson was nominated for Emeritus membership of the Commission and was subsequently approved.

The MC was requested to provide nominations for the Radiation Protection of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

The MC agreed to meet in Vienna, May 10-12 and Albuquerque NM October 17-20 in 2002.
