ICRP Main Commission Meeting

1995 September 9-10 Wurzburg, Germany

The MC reviewed the following reports for the review and made amendments and decisions where necessary:

Radiological Protection and Safety In Medicine – This report should be aimed primarily at medical practitioners. A joint Task Group was set up to publish the document as quickly as possible.
Age-Dependent Doses To Members Of The Public From Intakes Of Radionuclides: Part 4 Inhalation Dose Coefficients – The report was approved and the Commission requested C2 to prepare a technical guidance document.
Age-Dependent Doses To Members Of The Public From Intake Of Radionuclides: Part 5 Dose Coefficients For The Embryo And Fetus. – Adjustments were made to times of intake and addition of elements and other toxic chemicals.
Conversion Coefficients For Use In Radiological Protection Against External Radiation – The Commission welcomed new findings in the report and approved it for final publication.
The Expression Of Quantities In Tables And Figures In ICRP Publications – The Commission approved the use of giving the unit in brackets after the quantity for sake of clarity.
General Principles For The Protection Of Workers – Commission approved edits done so far by the Committee. Final approval slated for 1996.
Protection Against Potential Exposures - Application To Selected Radiation Sources – More examples needed with regards to medical applications. Approval slated for 1996.

The Main Commission received reports from Committees regarding work progress:

C1 – Updates from TGs regarding Genetic Susceptibility and Multifactorial diseases made it possible for them to attend the upcoming 1996 Commission meeting. Other work was presented regarding work on developing embryos and weighting factors for different organs.
C2 – The Commission approved a joint project between C2 and C4 regarding Doe Calculations. The Commission decided on calculation sizes for aerosols, a new phantom was needed for internal/external exposure calculations, and a new working party was to be created to review GI Tract model.
C3 - The Commission approved of research being done on protection as it related to practitioners and not patients but added that it is not to focus on dose planning but on accident avoidance.
C4 – Reports were given on update to progress on work which the Commission approved of. The Commission decided a TG would be required to work on preparing report on radioactive waste management.

The Commission decided to meet in Bethesda from 19-21 March 1996 and Paris from 4-8 November 1996.
