ICRP Main Commission Meeting

Future requests for translation and publication of ICRP documents will be made on individual basis to Scientific Secretary.

The MC reviewed the following reports for discussion and amendment recommendation:

• Dose-related Quantities for Radiological Protection against External Radiation
• Dose Coefficients for Intakes of Radionuclides by Workers: A Replacement for ICRP Publication 61
• Age-dependent Doses to Members of the Public from Intake of Radionuclides. Part 3, Ingestion Dose Coefficients
• Basic Anatomical and Physiological Data for Use in Radiological Protection: The
Skeleton

The Commission adopted all of the reports with the exception of the 1st provided the editorial changes discussed were implemented.

The Commission received reports from Chairmen of the Committees regarding work progress

C1 – It was agreed to invite Dr M L Mendelsohn, Dr D Easton and Dr R Chakraborty to be members of Task Group on Genetic Susceptibility to Cancer and it was also agreed to invite E A Boerwinkle for Risk Estimation for Multifactorial Diseases and Professor W J Schull to become a corresponding member.
C2 – Much discussion was made regarding the report “Age-Dependent Doses to Members of Public from Intake of Radionuclides and its respective parts, namely Inhalation Dose Coefficients (Part 4) and Dose Coefficients for the embryo and fetus (Part 5). Decisions were made regarding parameters for estimating dose, weighting factors, and recommendations to consult specialists in human fetus development.
C3 – The Commission agreed that the Committee 3 chairman inform the Committee that the Commission believe that effective dose is an appropriate concept when applied to medical exposures. The Committee also decided (with support from the Commission) that it was premature to set up a TG for Radiological Protection in Diagnostic Radiology.
C4 – The proposal for a TG on the Principles of Protection of the Public against Chronic Exposure Situations was accepted by the Commission. Other matters including addition of members to TGs, policy direction regarding radiation protection for the environment, pregnant women, and unborn fetuses were discussed.

Among other financial matters including budget and free copies of reports to be submitted to Committee members, it was decided that the next meeting of the Commission and its Committees will be held in Wurzburg 1995.
