1987 March 2-6 Washington, USA

Professor A M Kellerer has agreed to represent ICRP on the ICRU Committee on Fundamental Quantities and Units.

The following reports were published in ICRP Publications 48, 49, 50 respectively:

Metabolism of Plutonium and Related Elements
Developmental Effects of Irradiation on the Brain of the Embryo and Fetus
Lung Cancer Risk from Indoor Exposure to Radon Daughters

The following reports were presented to the Commission and were adopted subject to minor changes agreed at the meeting.

• Protection of the Patient in Nuclear Medicine
• Radiation Dose to Patients from Radiopharmaceuticals
• Monitoring of Workers for Internal Contamination

Possible future interactions with ICRU and COMECON were discussed. Future projects with ICRU would include defining the quality factor and specifying dose in x-ray mammography.

The following reports that were adopted at the Washington 1987 meeting underwent minor editorial changes and adjustments prior to publication.
The Commission approved creation of new working party for Comparison of organ masses using anthropomorphic phantoms.

The Commission decided not to pursue publication directly by the Commission.

The Commission accepted the Guidance to Committees on the Production of ICRP Reports and Instructions for the Preparation of ICRP reports with the intention of standardising the preparation of future reports.

The Commission heard progress updates on the following reports in addition to updates from Committees 1-4. The Committees gave updates regarding reports currently in progress and estimated completion periods. The majority of reports are to be expected at the Como Main Commission meeting. One important decision was to adopt a statement regarding the f1 values for plutonium, neptunium, and related elements and retention half-lives in liver and bone on ALIs.

The Commission agreed to prepare a constitution to make it eligible to become a UK registered charity.
