ICRP Main Commission Meeting

In response to an invitation by the International Radiation Protection Association to review its decision on Non-ionising radiation, the Commission reaffirmed its previous decision of not entering that field.

The Commission generally agreed with the content of a report produced by the ICRU/ICRP liaison committee. Reservations were made regarding word ‘effectance’.

The Commission decided to have two Committees to work on basic input of data and application of the Commission’s recommendations.

Matters of the next election were discussed and it was decided to invite a member of the Electoral Reform Society to conduct the vote using a single transferable vote system.

TG on Dose Limits – The report will be published as a report of the Commission itself.

Report on Index of Harm – The Commission agreed not to extend the scope of the original report.

ICRP-29 – The Commission will vote on report adoption via mail ballot.

The Commission was presented updates regarding the work of Committees 1-4 and made the following decisions:

C1 – The Commission requested additional quantitative data to be added in Radiosensitivity of the Embryo and fetus. It was agreed that the TG on Influence of Biological Factors on Genetic Hazards can be held to have completed its work.

C2 – The Commission received updates on Respiratory Absorption and Elimination Mechanisms and Radon, Thoron, and their Daughter Products

C3 – The Commission received updates regarding work on diagnostic radiology, Commission recommendation on dose limits, and protection of patient in radiotherapy.

C4 – The report on Protection in Uranium Mines was adopted by the Commission via mail ballot. With respect to C3/4 TG on ICRP-5 revision, the Commission accepted the proposal to replace Section 8 with a brief statement about the problem of volunteers.

The Next meeting of the Commission is scheduled for the end of 1976.
