Main Commission Meeting Bern 2005

Summary

The Main Commission and its committees met together in Geneva and Bern on September 15th 2005 and from September 17th- 18th 2005 respectively.

The Foundation Documents discussed during the previous Main Commission Meeting in Paris were again discussed at great length. Some of the documents discussed were approved for postal balloting after agreed amendments had been incorporated.

Committee 1’s Foundation Document on Health Effects generated over 400 responses from the public during the document’s public consultation period. Most of the contents were concerning uncertainties in the biphasic responses to lens opacities.

Committee 2’s Foundation Document on Dosimetry also received a large number of responses. The responses largely had to do with concerns about the key terms used in the publication. The commission ultimately decides that a glossary should be added in the publication.

Current Main Commission Chair Claire Cousins is unanimously elected to the Main Commission to be chair of ICRP committee 3.

Roger Clarke was appointed an emeritus member of the International Commission on Radiological Protection.
