Task Group 94
Ethics of radiological protection

Building on the results of the C4 Working Party on the ethics of radiological protection, the Task Group will develop an ICRP Publication presenting the ethical foundations of the system of radiological protection recommended by the Commission. The purpose of this Publication is to consolidate the basis of the Recommendations, to improve the understanding of the system and to provide a basis for communication on radiation risk and its perception.

The Task Group will identify the key components of the ethical theories and principles prevailing in the fields of safety, health, labour, the environment and sustainable development relevant to the system of radiological protection. The Task Group will also review the Publications of the Commission to identify the ethical and social values associated with the system of radiological protection for occupational, public and medical exposures and for the protection of environment.

Finally the Task Group will prepare a report presenting the ethical and social values structuring the system of radiological protection and its implementation for the different types of exposure situations and categories of exposure.

A series of workshops on "the Ethical Dimensions of the Radiological Protection System" have been organised in collaboration with ICRP and IRPA to support the work of this Task Group.
