Task Group 87
Radiological Protection in Ion Beam Radiotherapy
Recent advancement of radiotherapy with proton and carbon ion beams receives much attention for cancer treatment. This TG is to refine an advanced draft document developed by an initial Working Party to provide information necessary for radiation protection in ion beam radiotherapy, specifically with proton and carbon ions. This is for the safe operation of the medical facilities, with high energy beam accelerators, as well as for protection of patients and staff from unnecessary radiation. Potential incidents and measures for prevention, detection and mitigation will be explored and summarized in the report. The target audience will be users in facility, planners of facility and radiation protection specialists. The document will be completed in cooperation with ICRU.
