Dr. Ogino earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate in Engineering from the University of Tokyo. He spent 14 years at the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI), conducting research on low-dose and low-dose-rate radiation risks and their implications for radiological protection. He later joined the Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) as Chief for International Affairs and Radiation Protection. Dr. Ogino has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications and delivered more than 90 professional presentations.
From 2016 to 2018, Dr. Ogino served as ICRP Assistant Scientific Secretary and Associate Editor of Annals of the ICRP (Publications 133-139) at the Scientific Secretariat in Ottawa, Canada. Following his tenure in Ottawa, he continued advancing the System of Radiological Protection, notably as a member of Task Group 114 on Reasonableness and Tolerability in the System of Radiological Protection.
In 2022, Dr. Ogino was honored with the Bo Lindell Medal at the 6th ICRP Symposium, recognizing his contributions to the advancement of radiological protection. His expertise in radiological protection led to his appointment as Chair of the IAEA Radiation Safety Standards Committee (RASSC) for the 2024-2026 term. Dr. Ogino oversees the development of global safety standards aligned with ICRP recommendations.
