ICRP Dose Viewer

Get it on the App Store

The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) has developed a user-friendly, educative, and non-commercial mobile app to enable users to easily access the ICRP dose coefficients for intake of radionuclides for occupationally exposed individuals, members of the public, and for patients in diagnostic nuclear medicine.

The purpose of the mobile app is to create a simple tool, which can easily provide effective dose and organ dose values for different intake scenarios within a few seconds. The advantages of access to the dose coefficients via the ICRP Dose viewer is that dose coefficients are always updated.

Patients, radiation workers, and individual members of the public will find this tool very helpful because they can easily access the doses they received, even at organ levels, without having to do any computations themselves.

In addition to the ICRP dose coefficients ICRP has also included training material (as pdf) in the app, which also makes it easy to accesses the training material.

Where Can I Get The App?

The ICRP Dose Viewer app is available for download on both Google Play and the App Store. Simply search “ICRP Dose Viewer” or click the link above.

How Do I Use ICRP Dose Viewer?

  1. First select exposure scenario a, b, or c:
    1. Click on Members of the Public if you want to calculate dose for a member of the general public
    2. Click on Diagnostic Nuclear Medicine if you want to calculate dose for a patient
    3. Click on Occupational Intake if you want to calculate dose for an occupational setting
  2. Then, choose the element/isotope/radiopharmaceutical involved
  3. Input missing variables (ie. type of intake, particle size, age) if applicable
  4. Input the activity of the source and select the appropriate unit for the input
  5. The Effective Dose is automatically calculated and shown in Sievert (Sv) or its multiples
  6. You can view "Organ Doses" if available

You can also access additional Educational Material from the home screen for free. The following relevant ICRP Publications are available in the ICRP Dose Viewer app:

  • Publication 139: Occupational Radiological Protection in Interventional Procedures
