Draft Report for Consultation: Occupational Radiological Protection in Interventional Procedures

The draft ICRP report Occupational Radiological Protection in Interventional Procedures is now available for public consultation. We welcome comments from individuals and organisations. The draft document can be downloaded from the ICRP website. Comments must be submitted through the ICRP website no later than June 23, 2017.

Purpose and scope of the report from EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In Publications 117 (ICRP, 2010a) and 120 (ICRP, 2013a), the Commission provided practical advice on occupational radiological protection for physicians and other health care personnel involved in fluoroscopically-guided interventions. The current document provides guidance on exposure monitoring strategies, methods and options, radiological protection approaches and garments, their use and testing, the development of a radiological protection programme, education and training and quality assurance of the programme implementation. The guidance is meant for medical physicists and other healthcare professionals in charge of occupational protection, personnel working in dosimetry services, clinical applications support personnel, regulators and all those having an influence on the overall safety culture and on quality assurance and improvement. In addition, the guidance will be useful to those engaged in training, standardisation of equipment and procedures, to those with responsibilities for occupational health and to hospital managers and administrators responsible for providing financial support for protection purposes and to professional bodies (interventionalists, medical physicists, nurses, radiographers).
